Part-Time Volunteer Homeschool Teacher

Intermediate (grade 4-6 Swiss certified) Home School Teacher for the educational and development project "Smiling Gecko" in Cambodia 

Smiling Gecko is a unique development project in rural Cambodia (http://www.smilinggecko.ch/projekte/dorfschulprojekt/ ). Thanks to the initiative of the Swiss photographer Hannes Schmid, a cluster project has been established in the northern province of Kampong Chhnang with the sectors agriculture, hotels, industry, crafts, vocational training and education in its own Village School. 

 

Your main tasks as a home-school teacher are:

  • Teaching, guiding and supporting one student in all required subject areas through: “Die aktuellen Lehrmittel des Lehrplans 21 für das 2. Schulsemester.”
  • Together with the Village School, supporting the student with sports, outdoor, cultural activities, field work and together with the Village School
  • Help to oversee the student’s participation in classroom activities
  • With the Director establish relationships with international schools in Phnom Penh for inclusion in sports, art, music etc. with peers and with particular attention to the study of flute
  • Cooperation in school projects on site
  • Collaboration and communication with all concerned

 
We expect:

  • A passion for children
  • A passion for teaching and learning
  • Completed education as an Intermediate Swiss trained School Teacher
  • Native level English (preferred)
  • Professional experience (2-3 years)
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Reliable, responsible, resilient and open to constructive feedback
  • Flexible,empathetic
  • Willing to work in a team
  • Enjoy working in an intercultural context
  • Motivated to help shape the village school project

  

We offer:

  • A diverse and interesting job in an exciting environment
  • A stipend of USD 500 per month
  • Free on-site accommodation and meals, access and use of leisure facilities
  • Economy rt airfare and ground transportation to and from Smiling Gecko at the beginning and end of working period
  • At least 2 weekend stays per month in Phnom Penh for which Smiling Gecko covers the cost for transportation 
  • Visa in Cambodia during working period
  • Work permit (if required) and other legal requirements
